The Coolest Wedding Trends for Summer are Heating Up the Aisles!

Jul. 15th 2017

Summer will always be the hot season for weddings, no matter what people say. The weather! The flowers! The outdoors! Couples getting married this summer have been planning with the experts at to incorporate these latest trends into their summer weddings. We are excited to share their preferences with you.

Bucking Tradition: – It’s ok to see the bride! Change things up completely, or give your own unique nod to tradition. Today’s couples are photographing that “First Look” instead of waiting for the trip down the aisle to first see each other. Brides are shunning the standard white dress and veil for colorful gowns and crowns. It’s also good to find out if your beloved wants cake smashed in their face.

Nature Photo: Perhaps the biggest perk of a summer wedding is celebrating the outdoors in your wedding photos. Step outside, even in the rain, to grab that one-of-a-kind shot. Explore your setting for the perfect Mother Nature moment in your wedding wear – this juxtaposition makes for striking images.

The IT Flowers of Summer: The Peony and Orchid are the coveted blooms this season. The Peony only blooms in late spring, so is only available in summer. Fall and winter wedding couples can ask for them but are out of luck- peonies solely belong to the summer wedding. Orchids are available year-round, and these unique and delicate blooms can be dyed different colors to match your theme.

Hi friends! As much as I love my cell phone, I can totally see how some couples see them as a nuisance at their wedding. So it’s not surprising that the unplugged wedding is becoming more and more popular. Not only does it almost force your friends and family to be completely present for your big day, but you also avoid your guests getting in the way of the photographer while they try to capture their own cell phone photos.

Whatever your reasoning may be, here are some tips:

  • Only the ceremony should be “unplugged.” It’s when you want your guests to really pay attention and be present. But let them go wild with the photos at the reception! Half the fun is waking up the next morning and seeing all those fun shots on Instagram before you get your professional shots. But if you’re really a private couple that’s uncomfortable with your wedding being on social media, you should feel free to note that to your guests.
  • Make use of signage. Clever signage is always a great way to relay the message of an unplugged wedding. Place it right outside your ceremony space so guests can take note as they walk in. Don’t forget to make it cute! Have it penned by a calligrapher or place a nice border around it so it complements your décor.
  • Or make an announcement. If signage isn’t your thing, or you simply want to reinforce the message, have your wedding planner or a trusted friend/family member make a quick announcement before the ceremony begins. Remember to have them use a little levity or humor…no one wants to feel like they’re in school!
  • Brush off any “rebels.” There’s bound to be at least one person who didn’t get the memo or simply ignores it and whips their phone at as soon as you walk down the aisle. Don’t sweat it! You probably won’t notice anyway. You have bigger things to focus on, after all.

Hi friends! Summer is officially here, which means weddings are in full force. Whether you’re attending a few weddings this summer, or planning your own for next summer I bet summer wedding trends are on the brain. Here are a few trends I expect you’ll see this season. And for all you summer 2018 brides, wedding trends tend to be a tad more long lived – so I bet these will still be in style next year!

  • Think “crispy.” My favorite word to describe summer weddings this year? Crispy! Think clean, crisp linens, beautiful fresh flowers and picturesque outdoor settings. Things won’t be totally over the top – just fresh, bright and natural.
  • There will be a punch of summer color. Wedding colors will still revolve around whites, creams and greens but we’ll be seeing a splash of summer color! Vibrant orange, rich yellow, dynamic purple and the like will be big in the warmer months.
  • Summer drinks galore! Drinks and cocktails will certainly take on a summer vibe. Try a variety of summer lemonades with vodka and garnished with fresh sprigs of mint or lavender. Fruity, summer beers will also be popular – Hefeweizens, lemon shandies, apricot ales and more. But don’t serve them in the bottle! Have them poured into a nice, chilled glass so it’s supremely refreshing. Another word to the wise: be sure to have plenty of water stations in addition to these fun drinks to keep your guests hydrated.
  • Low but gorgeous florals. Centerpieces will be low to encourage mingling and conversation at the table, but will still be lush to make a décor statement. Imagine yummy summer blooms like dahlias and lavender. Don’t forget lots and lots of fresh greens!
  • Understated cakes. Wedding cakes in the summer will be much simpler with a few, elegant adornments like fresh flowers. Couples want to keep things organic, yet chic. cupcakes and a vertical of a wedding cake 2 photos

As you can see, summer weddings tend to take on characteristics of the season itself – outdoorsy, organic and fresh.
